Controlling Dust

In any remodel project, however simple it may be, dealing with dust is a necessity. Some dust will always tracked throughout a house, whether it be on shoes, tools, etc... Yet allowing too much dust to leave the work area can cause substantial damage to hardwood floors, can permeate HVAC systems, and can leave carpeting ruined. Failing to account for dust can lead to hours of extra work and can cause hundreds of dollars in replacement costs.

The ZipWall dust control barrier in use
Standing dust on a hardwood floor can lead to unsightly scratches and can dull or even damage a floor's finish. A damaged hardwood floor typically costs $2-3 per square foot to sand and refinish. Prevent this damage by controlling dust with a ZipWall system, and by protecting your floors with a  temporary floor protection solution.

As dust leaves a work site attention needs to be paid to protecting carpets, as well. A common way to protect carpet is to place kraft paper on top. However, paper is a bad solution because it is easily torn (which allows dust in) by nearly all construction equipment, and it does not provide a spill-resistant barrier. Carpet films present a far better solution, as the film resists tears and and prevents liquids from seeping into a carpet.
