EPA Rejects Additional RRP Compliance Rule for Paint Testing

The Environmental Protection Agency announced Friday that they have rejected a proposed ruling to add additional lead paint testing requirements to the Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Rule. The proposed rule would have required contractors to take extra steps to demonstrate that lead paint dust in the work area was below regulatory levels. These extra steps include mandatory dust wipe testing and additional clearance requirements. The rule was widely rejected by contractors as an unnecessary extra expense.
Although contractors do not have to comply with these additional regulations, the RRP Rule is still being enforced. Builders and remodelers must contain hazardous lead paint dust and protect workers from lead inhalation. Builders Site Protection has dust barriers, personal protection, and the Lead Ready™ containment kit that will guide contractors through the process and help them maintain full compliance every step of the way.
