Builders Site Protection Honored as 2011 Waste Reduction Awards Program Winner
Builders Site Protection is proud to announce that we have been distinguished as a winner of CalRecycle's 2011 Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP). WRAP is a program from California’s Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery which encourages businesses to implement policies to reduce waste and divert trash from landfills. Builders Site Protection went to great lengths to increase environmentally-friendly company policies. We diverted thousands of pounds of waste from landfills by reusing supplies and recycling as much as possible. We increased our green product line and encouraged customers to purchase reusable products made from recycled materials such as Doorguard, Edge Pro, and Clean and Safe. CEO Pat Mullen states, “Builders Site Protection is thrilled to be recognized as a low-waste producing company. This year we have further developed our green product lines, increased company recycling, and encouraged our customers in the construction industry to go green. We are proud to serve as an example of a successful green surface protection company.”

The Responsible Builders Guide to Surface Protection for Hospital Renovation Projects
Heather recently published an article that describes the best way to contain dust during hospital renovation projects. Minimizing dust created from renovation activities is critically important because sensitive patients may become more sick or even die from toxic mold or other harmful particulates. Builders Site Protection has products such as mobile containment units, ZipWall systems, fire-resistant plastic sheeting, shoe covers, and many more protection products which will help prevent the spread of dust. 12% Increase in New Construction During October
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Builders Site Protection is pleased to announce just in time for the holiday season that October saw a 12% surge in construction. The majority of the surge comes from new commercial projects in the manufacturing and energy sectors, but there was a slight uptick in residential construction as well. More construction means more jobs, so hopefully these new projects will help struggling families find work. Builders Site Protection wishes the very best of luck to all our valuable customers!

US Adopts National Green Building Code
The International Green Construction Code (IgCC) was approved last week after two years of development. The Code applies to all new and renovated commercial buildings and residential buildings over three stories high. Unlike LEED, which is entirely voluntary, the IgCC creates a mandatory floor with enforceable minimum standards. This mandatory floor includes specific requirements for site development and land use, energy and water efficiency, air quality, and a 50% diversion of construction materials from landfills. Local governments and states have the choice of adopting the IgCC. Once implemented, it’s enforceable. The IgCC will go into effect beginning in March 2012.

The Apartment Complex Boom of Seattle, Washington
CEO of Builders Site Protection Pat Mullen just returned from a trip to Seattle, Washington where there is currently an apartment complex construction boom. Possibly as a result of the shaky economy, most General Contractors in the Seattle area have given up constructing luxurious high rise condos and have turned to building more modest apartments. According to customers, this phenomenon is not limited to Seattle; Portland, Oregon and San Francisco, California are experiencing similar transitions. Although many of these apartment complexes are in the early stages of construction, the GCs that Pat spoke with are planning on using plenty of surface protection in the next few months. Builders Site Protection looks forward to helping our customers address any surface protection issues. As the largest West Coast surface protection supplier, Builders Site Protection has everything contractors need to prevent damage to valuable fixtures.

According to Customers, Coveralls are Great for Halloween!
The gals at Builders Site Protection recently spoke with a customer who purchased protective coveralls a few weeks ago for a job. He said that when he was in a bind the day before Halloween, he used the coveralls and a respirator as a scary costume! Surface Protection Expert Heather did the same thing at a Halloween party last Friday and the costume was a great hit. We are happy that our customers are finding many different ways to use our surface protection products. We hope that everyone had a happy Halloween!
