Construction Spending Reaches Three Year High in December
It looks like the economy is improving more quickly than previously thought! I posted about the sluggish growth forecast for 2013 several weeks ago, but recent data analysis suggests that construction spending wasn't as low as projected. According to the Commerce Department, construction spending increased 0.9% in December to an annual rate of $885 billion. Analysts only expected a 0.6% gain. Most of the gains came from private residential building projects, which increased 2.2 percent and reflects the country's improving housing market.
Along with government austerity measures, public sector construction has begun to fall. Public sector spending on construction fell 1.4 percent, which is the lowest its been since November 2006. If you have any updated news about construction spending or want to share with Builders Site Protection the building climate in your town, post a comment!

Construction Industry Forecast for 2013: Slow Growth Continues
The Construction Industry Forecast for 2013 is showing some slow improvement but infers that unpredictable funding for construction projects will slow growth. The report indicated that total US construction starts for 2013 will rise 6%, just slightly higher than the 5% increase of 2012.
Much like 2012, public works projects will struggle from a lack of funding. Housing and non-residential building will make up the vast majority of 2013 construction starts. Good news for residential builders; the housing industry has the most construction starts scheduled this year and has been steadily improving over the past several months. The McGraw Hill 2013 Construction Forecast predicts a 20-25% rise over 2012 numbers.
Builders Site Protection would like to wish our customers the very best for the new year. Let us know if you have a residential projects that may need surface protection.
