US Adopts National Green Building Code

The International Green Construction Code (IgCC) was approved last week after two years of development. The Code applies to all new and renovated commercial buildings and residential buildings over three stories high. Unlike LEED, which is entirely voluntary, the IgCC creates a mandatory floor with enforceable minimum standards. This mandatory floor includes specific requirements for site development and land use, energy and water efficiency, air quality, and a 50% diversion of construction materials from landfills. Local governments and states have the choice of adopting the IgCC. Once implemented, it’s enforceable. The IgCC will go into effect beginning in March 2012.

The Apartment Complex Boom of Seattle, Washington

CEO of Builders Site Protection Pat Mullen just returned from a trip to Seattle, Washington where there is currently an apartment complex construction boom. Possibly as a result of the shaky economy, most General Contractors in the Seattle area have given up constructing luxurious high rise condos and have turned to building more modest apartments. According to customers, this phenomenon is not limited to Seattle; Portland, Oregon and San Francisco, California are experiencing similar transitions. Although many of these apartment complexes are in the early stages of construction, the GCs that Pat spoke with are planning on using plenty of surface protection in the next few months. Builders Site Protection looks forward to helping our customers address any surface protection issues. According to Customers, Coveralls are Great for Halloween!

The gals at Builders Site Protection recently spoke with a customer who purchased protective coveralls a few weeks ago for a job. He said that when he was in a bind the day before Halloween, he used the coveralls and a respirator as a scary costume! Surface Protection Expert Heather did the same thing at a Halloween party last Friday and the costume was a great hit. We are happy that our customers are finding many different ways to use our surface protection products. We hope that everyone had a happy Halloween!

Builders Site Protection Volunteers at Tour de Fat San Diego

The gals at Builders Site Protection volunteered at Tour de Fat San Diego for the second year in a row on October 1st. The Tour de Fat festival, put on by New Belgium Brewery, celebrates biking and promotes greater public awareness of bike safety issues around the country. Of course, New Belgium beer is also celebrated! Pat, Heather, and Alex greatly enjoy biking and are proud to support greater protection for bicyclists on San Diego’s roadways.

Not a single door damaged at the Omni Hotel using Builders Site Protection's Doorguard!

Builders Site Protection provided the general contractor for the thousand-room Omni Hotel in Dallas, TX with Doorguard™ door protection in December of last year. Pat recently visited Dallas to check out the progress and see how the Doorguard™ worked out in protecting the hotel’s doors from damage. The general contractor stated that although there were thousands of doors installed the Omni Hotel and it was an extremely busy jobsite, not a single door needed replacement! Builders Site Protection is very proud to have created such a highly effective and reasonably priced door protection product.

Coastal Cleanup Day a Great Success

The gals at Builders Site Protection had a wonderful time participating in Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday September 17th. The generous donation that Builders Site Protection provided to the Lake Poway cleanup site helped volunteers collect hundreds of pounds of trash and recycling. Builders Site Protection is happy to have contributed to improving the quality of San Diego’s inland and coastal waterways and looks forward to helping again next year.

Builders Site Protection Donates Materials for Coastal Cleanup Day

Great news for the San Diego environmental community! Builders Site Protection will be donating reusable materials for the 2011 Coastal Clean-up Day at Lake Poway on September 17th. Coastal Cleanup Day is a global effort to clean up polluted waterways and prevent trash and runoff from reaching the ocean. Last year, 152 countries and over nine million volunteers collected 145 million pounds of trash on a single day. Builders Site Protection will supply Coastal Cleanup Day volunteers with five-gallon buckets for trash and recycling collection. Providing volunteers with buckets that can be reused for other purposes prevents the need for plastic trash bags, which are one of the most common types of marine pollution. Builders Site Protection's valuable donation will contribute to reducing plastic waste generated by cleanup activities.
